Aegina is an island of the Saronic Gulf. This is the name of the capital and the main port of the island. During antiquity it was a settlement center of the Peloponnesian, Aegean and Myrmidon. Later, along with other shipping cities, the Amphictyon of Kalavria, participates in the naval battle of Salamis against the Persians and during the Classical era is the city of the Achaic Confederacy. The city of Aegina was the first capital of Greece.
