Aegina is located in the center of the Saronic Gulf, surrounded by Agistri, Methana, Troizina, Poros and Piraeus. The island presents important sights such as the Temple of Aphaia, Paleochora, the remains of the temple of Hellenic Zeus. Famous beaches of the island are Marathonas and Agia Marina.
Aegina is an island of the Saronic Gulf. This is the name of the capital and the main port of the island. During antiquity it was a settlement center of the Peloponnesian, Aegean and Myrmidon. Later, along with other shipping cities, the Amphictyon of Kalavria, participates in the naval battle of Salamis against the Persians and during the Classical era is the city of the Achaic Confederacy. The city of Aegina was the first capital of Greece.
