Symi is the eighth largest Greek island of the Dodecanese. It is about 12 miles NW. Rhodes, before the homonymous Bay of Asia Minor, or the Sebeki Bay against the Turks, with a total area of ​​57,865 km2. It is 255 miles from Piraeus, about 27 miles east of Nisyros and 3.7 miles from the nearest coast of Turkey . Its natural harbor is Gialos, around which the city is built amphitheatrically. During the 2001 census there were 2,606 inhabitants, of which 2.427 were concentrated in the upper part of the city, the so-called Horio, which is built on the slopes of Mount Vigla. There are also Nimorio resorts, to the north, and Pedi, to the east.
